A tennis-loving Shropshire youngster, enjoying being part of the ball crew again at this week’s Lexus W100 Shrewsbury tournament, was inspired to write to the legendary Roger Federer after last year’s event.
William, who has represented Shropshire’s county tennis teams at under-11 and under-12 level, put pen to paper to the Swiss star, and was delighted to receive a hand-written reply.
Federer sent William two postcards from his home in Switzerland, which included a personal message relating to the local boy's own letter he had posted to the winner of 20 Grand Slam men’s singles titles.
William had also told Federer about being part of the ball crew as Viktorija Golubic, another Swiss tennis player, was crowned W100 Shrewsbury champion last October.
William is again enjoying being part of the ball crew alongside a number of other Shropshire youngsters for this week’s prestigious ITF World Tennis Tour event at The Shrewsbury Club.
They are all doing a wonderful job, under the direction of organiser Simon Haddleton.
William, a promising tennis player, is ranked nationally around 50 in his age group, and loves to spend as much time as possible playing tennis at The Shrewsbury Club.
