Be A Tennis Volunteer

We are looking to assemble a super-friendly volunteer team to help deliver the event and demonstrate why Shropshire is such a wonderful place to spend time in. We are expecting for a turnout of some of the top 150 ranked players from across the world along with the majority of the best British players.

You don’t need any previous tennis or volunteering experience to be involved, just bags of enthusiasm and a passion for helping others!

It’s really important to us that our volunteers have lots of fun too, which is why you'll get involved in all that is going on, meet lots of new people and watch some world-class tennis. Event apparel, food & refreshments, parties including street food, music and live tennis will all be part of the experience.

Volunteering Roles

Our volunteer team will play a pivotal role as the public face of the event, ensuring that all fans, players and officials have a positive and safe experience.

You will receive a briefing on how to perform all roles prior to the event and at the start of each session.

For each of the roles there will be a Lead Volunteer to provide the team with support and leadership.

Check tickets as fans enter the match courts and direct them to their seats. Ensure those seated on the match courts are respectful of play and of others around them. Work with the on-court officials and chair umpire to manage all aspects of the on-court activity and to help prepare the courts before and after matches. Accompany players to and from the changing rooms to courtside.

As part of ITF requirements, we have to provide players with their own lounge. You will be looking after players, helping them with advice on the town, places to eat etc., as well as ensuring only those with appropriate accreditation have access to the lounge.

Scan tickets as fans enter the venue. Provide fans with wristbands and explain the procedures for accessing the Club, the courts and the hospitality tent. Manage queues and assist wheelchair users with route to the courts. Create an upbeat, positive atmosphere as people arrive and answer questions and queries about the event and venue.

Transporting players, event staff and VIPs. Shuttle runs between venue & event hotel. You will most likely be driving a luxury 8-seater SUV from our sponsors Lexus, so need to be comfortable driving a vehicle of this size. A local knowledge of Shrewsbury and the area around the venue is preferable.

  • Requirements for Event Drivers
  • Must be aged 25 or over
  • Must have a clean driving licence
  • Must have held your driving licence for at least 2 years
  • Must meet the ‘Group 2' medical standards if you're over 70 - check with your GP if you're not sure you meet the standards

We have a detailed entertainment programme in both the marquee and courtside from Thursday onwards. This role will include helping with the big screen showing adverts and videos during event in the marquee as well as screening the tennis via the BBC red button service at all times during play. On the show court we will have two screens playing videos and adverts prior to matches and during change of ends, along with music.

Additional Information

Get information about volunteering session times, breaks, event parking by expanding out each box.

The session times for all event days will vary depending upon play but, for the purpose of planning we are asking you to volunteer according the following schedule:

  • Morning session 09:00 - 15:30*
  • Afternoon/Evening session - 15:00 - 21:30**

If selected to volunteer, we do ask that you commit to volunteering for a minimum of 3 sessions. There is no limit on the number of sessions you can volunteer for! *If you are a driver then the start times will be earlier due to the need to get players to the event for practice before their matches which will start on some days at 9:30am. **Exact finish times may vary depending on match length. We will try to stand down all volunteers as early as we reasonably can and it is very likely that most days you will be finished before 9pm

We always allow sufficient numbers to ensure you’ll receive plenty of regular breaks throughout your session. Plus, you’ll always be partnered with at least one other volunteer, so that you’ve got someone to work with you.

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide volunteers parking at the venue. As with all the Shrewsbury Club staff, we would ask all volunteers to park at the Shrewsbury Sports Village which is a 5-minute walk from the Club. Car parking here will be free and we have agreed this parking arrangement with the Sports Village!

You must be aged 18 or older at the time of the event Applicants should also note that you may be required to be standing/on your feet for extended periods.
