The Art of Tennis

Engage Your Students with the W100 Shrewsbury Stencil Art Competition.

The ITF World Tennis Tour returns to Shrewsbury with the Lexus Shrewsbury W100 in October 2024, featuring some of the top 100 world-ranked female players. It's the UK's biggest tennis event outside the grass-court season. To celebrate, we're inviting Shropshire school students to get involved by creating art for the World Tour week.

How To Get Involved

Project Overview

We want to celebrate creativity that can be expressed through both sport and art. The art of tennis is designed to encourage children to get involved with sport through art and ensure that all children get the chance to express themselves. We will provide you with a stencil which takes the shape of the W100 impression. Children can create artwork inside the stencil using whatever medium they want including paper, crayons, markers, or paint.

Instructions

Please request the W100 stencil pack by emailing Art of Tennis co-ordinator, Ann-Marie Andrew, on [email protected]. The stencils will be sent to you and children should then place the stencil on piece of A4 paper and fill in the design. We would love to encourage tennis-themed or imaginative drawings, but ultimately the children can be as creative and different as they would like. The drawings can be completed as part of a structured lesson or by the children out of school. Please ensure that each child has the following information on the back of their artwork:

  • Name
  • Year Group
  • School

Display and Compete

You are very welcome to display artwork in the classroom but please submit all your entries by the end of the summer term. Entries can either be dropped off at the reception of the Shrewsbury Club in an envelope marked for the attention of Ann-Marie Andrew or posted via recorded delivery to Ann-Marie Andrew, Art of Tennis, The Shrewsbury Club, Sundorne Road, Shrewsbury, SY1 4RG.

Schools are welcome to submit all artwork or a selection of the best at the discretion of the teacher.

All entries will be judged over the summer holiday by our panel which includes former British world ranked tennis star, Gabi Taylor, who has become a professional artist on retirement from tennis.
